TAC codes

The Type Allocation Code (TAC) is an eight-digit code used to identify a specific model of a wireless device that uses an IMEI. It forms the first eight digits of the device's IMEI and is assigned to the device model by a GSMA-authorized Reporting Body.

The TAC identifies the device model and distinguishes it from other models or revisions. It is used by mobile network operators and other industry stakeholders to recognize and manage different device types on mobile networks. TAC information can also be used for device identification, network management, device certification and regulatory purposes, as well as for maintaining device databases and applying device-specific network policies or services.
